An inner suburb of Brisbane City, Highgate Hill was a premier residential precinct during the 19th century. Today, the suburb has a good mix of dwelling types from newly restored Queenslander homes to modern houses and apartment complexes.

Apartment blocks dominate the main road of Dornoch Terrace. It is here that the very first high-rise apartment complex in Brisbane, Torbreck, was erected in the late 1950s. Eventually, other apartment buildings followed suit.

And although Highgate Hill is not wanting of good cafes and restaurants, residents and visitors are afforded great dining and shopping choices as West End- a cafe, restaurant and shopping precinct- is just a stone’s throw.

Moreover, the Cineplex on South Brisbane is just a 15-minute travel by bus from Highgate Hill Park via Hampstead Rd and Ernest St, while it would only take around 5 minutes drive to reach Mater’s Hospital via Gloucester St and State Rte 10.

The suburb also has easy access to the Brisbane State School, Somerville House, St Laurence’s College, Dutton Park State Primary School, and several others including some arts and cultural venues.

So, basically, Highgate Hill’s proximity to the CBD, and other important precincts, has turned Highgate hill into a popular lifestyle suburb. If you’re worried about transport, well, buses regularly run through the suburb. Besides, the West End ferry wharf in Orleigh Street, used by the CityCat, is within walking distance.
